Queen Anne's Lace Tincture
Queen Anne’s Lace (Daucus carota), or wild carrot, is a natural diuretic that can be supportive in instances of water retention, sluggish lymphatic system, bladder and urinary tract infection. It’s also known to be supportive to the kidneys and as a bitter and carminative herb can ease gastrointestinal cramping, gas, and bloating as well as nurture the liver.
QAL’s drying, warming energetics and circulatory stimulant capabilities means it can be utilised as an emmenagogue, i.e. can assist with bringing on delayed menses.
The use of QAL to prevent pregnancy dates back to Ancient Greece and Egypt and stems from it’s mild estrogenic and anti-progestogenic activity. Because progesterone is required to form a thick, sticky uterine lining, QAL is believed to reducing the egg’s ability to implant into the uterus. QAL is also a reproductive tonic that can help modulate hormones and cycles as well as promote fertility depending on when and how she is used.
Ingredients
Fresh homegrown Daucus carota seeds (85%) and blooms (15%), GF vodka.
Use
The user must take full responsibility for considering the resources below when using QAL. QAL is recommended to be used intentionally and in reverence to particular stages of your menstrual cycle, and not as a daily form of contraception. QAL is not commonly utilised as a a sole form of “herbal contraception” and is often used alongside cycle tracking and various fertility awareness methods.
The following are dosing recommendations only. Please read the linked materials to ensure best results for your desired use of QAL.
For digestive and urinary system support: 1-2 ml up to 3x per day.
Fertility enhancement - Take 1/2-2mL before ovulation and cease taking before ovulation. Alternatively take every day for 1-3 months to enhance fertility before attempting to conceive.
For implantation prevention (contraception) - Robin Rose Bennett recommends taking 3 doses of 1/2-2 mL of tincture, the first dose within 8-12 hours after intercourse where pregnancy is a risk, and then repeating that dosage twice more every 8-12 hours, within a minimum of 24 hours and a maximum of 72 hours. A 2011 study found that 15-30 drops of QAL taken 8 hours after intercourse, every 8 hours, for 24 hours had a 95% contraceptive success rate (the 5% who became pregnant did not follow the protocol accurately).
